Yoga & Meditation in the Himalayas

Yoga & Meditation in the Himalayas

Nepal has always conjured up a mystic image of high mountains, monks and mediation. This is still very much the case today and there are many meditation, yoga and retreat centers. Why not compliment your trek with a few days learning yoga and mediating in one of the unique centers, either as a part of your trek or as an extension activity.
Since the 1960's, pop culture yoga & meditation have become subjects of intrigue, soul-searching and sometimes of verve, in the western, industrialized world. The frontiers of science have pushed the boundaries of materialism to the edge where all matter is seen as nothing more than energy in concretised form for a limited duration of time. Modern thought has met ancient wisdom head-on! As an ancient Greek philosopher noted, "Panta Rhei" or "everything flows," nothing remains static in the universe, whereas ancient Indian thought intuited that beyond all change there exists a "unified field." While material progress has made our physical lives easier and many are caught up in their fascination with technology, something within us cries out, "Is that all there is? Why are we here? What is the secret to happiness? Where are we headed?" Now, more than 30 years after the 60's pop culture's flirtation with "exotic disciplines" of body and mind, yoga and meditation have become mainstream, or at least a cursory practice of them has.
The Himalayas are considered to be at the "top of the world,' a symbol of the lofty and the remote, and a region inhabited by solitary sages seeking the wisdom of life. What could be life's biggest adventure than to discover what it's all about? Is what we call life nothing more than a result of a random collision of atoms, or is it a "waking dream" of some unknown Dreamer? Are there sacred places in the world that can aid in the transformation of our consciousness? Someone once said, "Truth is only hearsay until it becomes your own experience," in other words, no amount of reading and studying can substitute for direct experience. The Himalayas beacons the truth-seeker, the adventurer and the culturally curious toward new vistas of the mind and soul. They are considered the original abode of yoga and meditation and legend has it that great beings dwell there and they are also considered a natural point where the energies of heaven and earth meet. If wisdom can be said to be located in a particular locale, it is here in the intense silence of the Himalayan region, as Emerson once remarked, "Let us be silent that we may hear the whispers of the gods."
We primary intent is to facilitate an "adventure of a lifetime" whether one is seeking a casual exploration of natural beauty and culture or a spiritually transformational journey.
